Ancient Greek App Reviews

Excellent!

Wish more like this one to be in the appstore!

Magna cum laude!

Best learning, reading, dictionary app for ancient greek!!

I use this app all the time

I use this app for the complete searchable LSJ, and inside the dictionary, I use it for the reverse English-Greek lookup. This feature alone makes it worth the price. A caution to the user - it wont give you EVERY word in the dictionary that could possibly be translated by your term in English; it only looks for the first English translation of each word. Still, this is invaluable, and this is the only app Ive found that has this function. A minor but persistent irritant: the final sigma, which should look like this - ς - is shown in this app as identical to an interstitial sigma - σ . Minor, but it gets to me. Id give this app 5 stars otherwise. However, its still highly usable, and useful, and presumably this will be corrected in a future release.

Great App!

This a great app, it speeds my work a lot, browsing the dictionary is now a lot faster and more comfortable than a paper version.

Quite good

The app works quite better than its competitors. Fully-searchable LSJ is undoubtedly the best feature. There are still minor issues with the output of greek sigma, which often appears in the wrong orthography. The amount of Greek texts is not particularly high. I regret the absence of several Euripidean tragedies and the majority of Platonic dialogues. It would be very useful to add the list of abbreviations of Greek Authors mentioned in LSJ. Good work, but some improvement is recommended.

Really Good

Must have for greek scholars. I hope it evolves towards inside-lemma text search, and ever more authors and masterpieces. Dont let our expectations down!

This app is fantastic

This app is very precise and so useful. It is definitely a good deal. Thank you thank you thank you!

Not worth the money

This is nothing like I expected, and useless for anything for which I wish to use it. Id like my money back.

Good stuff

This is a good app. But PLEASE fix the final sigmas so they display correctly!

Nicely done, but...

Nicely done, with a good selection of authors and works, but PLEASE fix the final sigmas so they display properly!

Great potential.

I see in this app what I first saw when I came across SPQR. As authors and features are added, it is sure to shine bright and become a part of every Classics students app list. To the author: Id really like to see a "Learn" feature added before any other. Perhaps Pharrs intro to Homeric Greek would be a good place to start. Im sure there are good texts for later Greek in the public domain as well. Please add more English translations as soon as possible as well, especially for Aristotle. Looking forward to the development of this app!

Ive waited aeons...

This app, just like the SPQR Latin app, is a benchmark for taking advantage of the iOS platform for learning classical Languages. Its endlessly absorbing and completely cost-effective. Unlike its sister SPQR app, it has no learning textbooks/grammars included. I imagine theyll eventually be added, and then itll be the only one-stop shopping Classical Greek learning app available! Awesome stuff---keep it coming.

Wonderful

This app has many complete books in greek. More than I thought when I bought it. Plus it has a dictionary, plus many of the works have an English translation button. If youre learning Ancient Greek you will not be disappointed.

Great app

This app is very good. Excellent dictionary that even has an English to Greek feature. Lots of Greek texts. I do wish it had a good Greek grammar though. Still definitely useful and worth the price.

Pretty good...pretty darn good!

When will there be optimization for iPhone 5 (unless that is already in progress)? Other than that, I think its a great pedagogical app for any student of Ancient Greek or Classical Studies. I have to say--where is Cassius Dio?

fantastic

wow this app is great i wish i had found this earlier!! if only it had a parser like SPQR, but jeez it seems to have everything else one could ever want!

Koine

Excellent for a dictionary. You can type english letters into the phone which will transliterate into Greek. It is for Classical, but I use it for Koine. Buy it. It has replaced my analog dictionary. The quotes are pithy proverbs, it’s alright. The only thing that would complete this would be a built in flash card program for my grammar. The current flash card program is a general one. The cards are a little cumbersome. I payed money elsewhere for that. Would be willing to fork over in-app purchase for Mounces card set.

Worth it for LSJ

No parsing, so its still way behind its Latin counterpart, but with this app you can carry the entire LSJ in your pocket and search for any word in a matter of seconds. Nuff sed. This is the greek lexicon app we classics students have all been waiting for.

Great app

Impressive collection of texts and really nice being about to switch instantaneously between Greek and English.

A good start

Nice UI, and some nice features, but the "quick lookup" in the texts isnt very useful at this time. I realize the app is in its first iteration, but there needs to be better access to the Dictionary from the texts before I would recommend this app. Also, it would be really nice to see parsing capabilities.
